« The Rise and Fall of the Shi’ar Empire, Chapter Eleven: the End of All That Is »: With a third of the Shi’ar armada defecting to Lilandra, an unconcerned D’ken proceeds with Vulcan and Deathbird’s wedding before the M’Kraan Crystal, even as Darwin fails to stop Professor X from being led off to die. Lilandra’s forces crash the ceremony in a massive battle, and after the wedding concludes, Vulcan hurls Professor X into the Crystal, prompting a horrified Darwin to leap in after him. Vulcan then turns on D’ken, killing him in a long-awaited act of revenge, and stuns the assembled Shi’ar by claiming the throne for himself as Deathbird’s new husband and declared Emperor.
