« God Spare the Child… »: Leaving Banshee behind to recover, the X-Men return home, where Jason Wyngarde plunges Phoenix into another illusory « timeslip » before Cyclops breaks the spell. Professor X, now back, scolds Cyclops over team discipline before Cerebro detects two new mutants, prompting the team to split up. Observed by the Hellfire Club’s White Queen, teenage mutant Kitty Pryde is targeted for recruitment; while her parents talk with Professor X, Colossus, Storm and Wolverine take Kitty for ice cream, only for the group to be ambushed and captured by Frost’s mercenaries. Kitty escapes using her newly discovered phasing power and stows away aboard the White Queen’s departing ship.
