« I Want To Be an Avenger! »: Learning that Avengers earn $1,000 a week, Spider-Man tries to sign up, then stows away on the quinjet as Captain America, Starfox, and the She-Hulk investigate a disturbance at Project Pegasus. The new security chief, the Guardsman, explains that an attempt to sink a magma tap provoked an attack by the subterranean Lava Men. The Wasp, the Scarlet Witch, and Captain Marvel arrive as reinforcements, and the Lava Men mistake Captain Marvel for a legendary figure, the Lady-of-Light, allowing her to arrange a truce. Meanwhile, four superhuman criminals imprisoned at the project escape their cells and plan to seize its nuclear research dome.
