« The Rise and Fall of the Shi’ar Empire, Chapter Five: Double-Edged »: K’tor arms the freed Korvus with the Phoenix Blade and orders him to hunt and kill Marvel Girl, while the X-Men, wary of their two rescued Shi’ar passengers, take a long detour through remote stargates. Korvus infiltrates their ship and defeats the team, but when he strikes at Marvel Girl, the Blade’s Phoenix Force links their minds, letting each experience the other’s suffering at Shi’ar hands. Moved, Marvel Girl absorbs part of the Blade’s power and disarms an explosive implant in Korvus’s head, even as the two treacherous Shi’ar seize Professor X and flee, unknowingly followed by a stowaway Darwin clinging to their hull.
